Learn to Grow and Harvest in the Fox Valley Food for Health (FVFFH) Gardening Program
During the Spring and Summer season, we look forward to growing vegetables for our Healthy Meals program. We currently are partnering with Mooseheart Child City and School in Batavia to expand our gardening program. Mooseheart is a home for children and teens in need from infancy to high school. The Mooseheart campus contains large garden plots and a greenhouse. FVFFH will now be gardening at the Mooseheart garden plots so we can continue to educate and train teens about the benefits of organic gardening and healthy eating.
Prior to our Mooseheart Garden, we partnered with Kautz Farm in Geneva, who generously donated garden plots for our use. Our teen and adult volunteers worked together in the organic gardens all spring and summer to grow vegetables from seed to harvest. These gardens produced hundreds of pounds of healthy vegetables for our meals. Thank you to Kautz Farm for their past support and generosity.
Our gardening team includes Mooseheart educators, master gardeners, dietitians and skilled home gardeners working together to grow, harvest and teach teens about organic gardening, healthy food preparation, food safety and increasing intake of fruits and vegetables.
PLEASE JOIN US this summer at Mooseheart to plant and harvest organic produce for our Healthy Meals program. We welcome all teen and adult volunteers regardless of skill level. We especially invite teens with little or no previous gardening experience.
Starting in June, we will meet at the garden each Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8:00 – 10:00 AM. Adults and teen volunteers will be growing and harvesting vegetables for use in our kitchen. Our Healthy Meals program provides nourishing meals for clients and families dealing with serious illness.
