The Caring Cooks Culinary Nutrition Series presents the FVFFH approach to healthy eating while providing a fun and friendly hands-on learning environment. This Culinary Nutrition Series will give you experience and skills to create healthy dishes in your own kitchens. Each week the classes feature nutrition education lessons, hands-on cooking skills and tasting of the delicious dishes you prepare in class.

October 9 – Beans, Grains & Fiber

Fiber is important for health including weight control, heart disease, blood sugar and digestion.  This class highlights the health benefits of grains, legumes and beans and features a demonstration on easy preparation and storage techniques.  Learn the different types of beans and how to incorporate into your everyday diet.

Recipes:  Vegetable Bean Soup, Grain and Rice Pilaf, Risotto with Butternut Squash,  salsa, guacamole, hummus and Very Berry Crisp. 

November 6 – Soups and Stews

Antioxidants and Phytonutrients help boost immunity and fight infection. Prepare for the cooler months ahead with comforting Soups and Stews. This class highlights the health benefits of adding extra vegetables and grains to dishes and features ways to blanch and store vegetables for quick use. Taste FVFFH’s secret ingredient the Mineral Broth, a powerful base for your soups and stews.

Recipes: Kaboocha and Butternut Squash Soup, Vitamin A Rich Pumpkin Stew and Apple Crisp.
